Boise Bicycle Project

The Boise Bicycle Project is a non-profit organization committed to expanding local access to bicycling through the provision of refurbished bicycles, bicycle repairs, and educational experiences that build up the community and cultivate...

What we did:

BUILDING COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIPS

Especially in the nonprofit sector, it’s essential that an organization be able both to access their community and to meaningfully communicate their impact to contributors, in order to drive the continued financial support necessary to expand.

The Boise Bicycle Project wanted to strengthen their community communications by creating marketing materials that not only shared the necessary information, but told a story that people could feel, connect with, and get excited about.

To that end, we conceptualized and created various digital and print materials that helped to hone the personality of The Boise Bicycle Project and to cultivate spirited connections with the community that built trust and ultimately strengthened their impact.

COMMUNICATING THE IMPACT

Annual reports are an essential means of conveying an organization’s measurable impact. What this means is a lot of data and statistics—information that, if not presented right, can be both dry and incomprehensible.

The Boise Bicycle Project wanted their donors to really understand the work they did in the community throughout the year. They wanted to turn important, yet dry data, into meaningful takeaways that the community could not only understand but feel passionate about.

With visual and written storytelling, we designed an annual report that transformed dry data into a meaningful and thematic recap of their year’s work, telling a story from the heart of their organization, for the heart of the community

ILLUSTRATING IN PROCESS

Visual storytelling is born through a creative process—one that involves drafts and collaboration. Above, you can see the progression of the 2019 annual report cover as our team moved through graphic iterations of an old-bike-manual theme until we achieved the final product.

HONING IN ON THE DETAILS

The key to an original design and a cohesive brand story is custom illustration. It’s easy to miss these details at first glance, but at a closer look, it becomes apparent that these small graphic elements are responsible for a consistent and engaging visual presentation. That’s why we custom-created all of the illustrations for The Boise Bicycle Project’s materials.

SPREADING THE WORD VIRTUALLY AND ON THE GROUND

While many of our designs live solely in the digital space, some expand into print to support the marketing means of organizations like The Boise Bicycle Project, who work and communicate with their community on the ground.

We drafted, designed, and facilitated the printing of this flyer to drive attendance to their annual Bikin’ For Lovin’ fundraiser.

TAKING THE PROJECT FROM START TO FINISH

Though we operate virtually, TMC offers management of the printing process, start to finish. For the Boise Bicycle Project, we had the unique opportunity to facilitate this printing hands on. TMC’s founder and owner, Chandler, was working as the creative director for BBP at the time; so he, in conjunction with the TMC team, executed these projects both virtually and in-person.

Though TMC can’t offer that in-person printing for all of our virtual partners, we do manage the printing process entirely—including the creation of print-ready designs, facilitation of printing, and shipping of printed materials.

We love working with organizations like BBP who work so passionately and creatively to build up their community.

We are humbled to be a part of amazing projects like these!
