APPEALING TO THE SENSES
When a customer is shopping online, they are experiencing a product through words and images on a screen. Necessarily, the product is not in their hands. Great product photography is what makes the difference between an apprehensive almost-customer and an excited new buyer who feels like they have already tested the product.
Because Taboodoir is focused on the sensual—in every meaning of the word—it was vital that our images created an olfactory and tactile experience along with the visual storytelling typical of product photography. And because showcasing the artisan aspect of their goods is their current marketing focus, developing visuals that demystified the ingredients and highlighted craftsmanship was our priority.
To guide composition, we focused on a few key elements:

Often, when a business takes the step to plan out product photography, they learn more about what is important to them and what might resonate with their audience.
Working with Taboodoir on these product shots, we learned that founder Nan loves creating new products, but also wants to keep the scope of what she offers within clear boundaries. In coming together to clarify her brand for her local and online audiences, we were able to offer advice on which products to continue to feature moving forward, and how to group and share existing products in a way that gets customers excited to try them.
As these photos make obvious, texture, scent, and packaging all make a difference to the bliss that a potential customer will experience!
